The artwork Familiarity centres itself on the depiction of familiar imagery from daily life, memorialised through the medium of stained glass. My artistic practice intends to challenge the processes and concepts traditionally associated with stained glass. The piece displays a collection of imagery from my personal camera roll and day-to-day life. In memorialising these images considered 'common' and 'forgettable', I challenge the traditions of stained glass depicting important, often religious imagery. The individual pieces are created using a range of different stained processes, in parallel to the concept of fragmented memory, depicting the images in a blurry unidentifiable manner. The three larger collages show the three colour schemes of green, blue and yellow that the imagery falls into, tying together all of the individual artworks into a larger collage of familiar images. Within the creation of the work itself, the artworks become familiar to my memory and implemented into my daily routines. The combined artworks challenge the traditions of stained glass conceptually and practically, as a depiction of my day-to-day imagery translated through non-conventional glass processes.
