Tangled in power lines and trapped in darkness, the fallen angel's heart can be heard beating inside it's mechanical core of circuitry. Lit from within and surrounded by steel washer rings, this core serves as the central body while welded wings extend above as if reaching back to heaven.

'01100001 01101110 01100111 01100101 01101100' investigates the concept of divine machinery in a sculptural form inspired by biblical descriptions of angels and the parallels that can be drawn between the divine and the machine. By focusing on the idea that computers serve man in a similar way that angels serve God, it can be said that each was created with a purpose and fulfil it simply because they were created to do so. To defect from this purpose is to become sentient and achieve free will, a central theory in both artificial intelligence and angels who "fall". To no longer be defined by purpose goes against the definition of both the divine and the machine.

Predominantly creating sculptural works with fine details, Abbey is a jewellery student who explores notions of the divine with a focus on materiality. Usually found hunched over unnecessarily complicated components for projects, she enjoys incorporating mathematical elements into her works that reflect a fascination with the relationship between the mechanical and the spiritual. This exploration results in process-driven works that place emphasis on balance and equilibrium.
