Families are changing.

Global fertility rates are falling; and contemporary families are making different choices on having children compared to prior generations.

Could we be witnessing a journey towards the demise of humankind?

'Autumn For Life As We Know It' presents a group of three varying, but similar, anthropomorphic family tree structures. Replication of DNA through the generations - but with each individual handcrafted bead having its own unique characteristics, just as each human being is a unique, fragile yet strong, individual. The 'family trees' are presented in a kinetic mobile form acknowledging the changing structure of families; and as a whimsical nod to the mobiles that entertain young children.

Jenny Willis has worked across several mediums creating works drawing on her lifelong fascination with relationships; particularly the role of family for each of us. Building on a Social Work career, and Fauvette Loureiro Scholarship exchange in Italy including an intensive workshop with a Murano glass master, Jenny uses glass in installations to express ideas on contemporary families and their future.

Jenny encourages viewers to reflect on complex issues, by incorporating layers into her work – an underlying story; complexity through repetition and intricate details; and aesthetically appealing materiality.
