White lotus flowers, rice, purity, stretch marks, lace dresses, light. These white things have accompanied me throughout my life, bringing me pain, joy and direction, moulding my shape. From birth to growing up, the dogmatic constraints of my environment were oppressive, affecting my mum and bringing me deep fear. The harsh demands that white represents, mixed with the praise that white represents, were eventually released by my mother’s words, “You have a life of your own”. Now white is just white, and anyone can see their own colour in white.
