Ada Chen

My work revolves around the idea of heritage and communication.

The connection between family members is important and inseparable. Those in my country who have disabilities are usually been ignored and dismissed. However my mom and her siblings did a great job of continuing gesture language as a culture. My figurative work are meant to celebrate these different languages as beautiful. The lotus, made of sculptures of hand, represents the equality and power of lives in their Buddhist faith.

Born in 2000 in Nanjing, China, she studied at the University of Sydney, Sydney College of the Arts. Ada Chen is a contemporary Chinese artist known for her watercolour paintings, oil paintings and sculpture. Appropriating commonplace materials, the artist makes critical comments on social news. From 2019-2022, Ada represented Australia at the Fabriano Acquarello, where she exhibited her watercolour paintings.
