Shells, 2023, Ceramics

Danielle’s work Shells focuses on tapping into the anxieties and discomforts that come from pressures in uncontrollable situations, more specifically in gallery settings. This work encourages the audience to navigate through each sculpture, conscious of every movement they make, in fear that one may fall or knock at any given point in time. Shells delves into the feelings of reservation when it comes to engaging with fragile or close proximity works, pushing the boundaries of the audience into stepping out of their comfort zone. Whilst engaging with the work, ‘Shells’ becomes a reflection of an individual’s mind, body and soul as they explore, interact, and react to the work, a metaphor for the ways in which we approach life and the decisions we choose to make.

Danielle Youie is an emerging artist having had a passion for art from a young age. Her practice incorporates a mix of mainly sculpture and ceramics, exploring a variety of elements that push the limits of her methodology and creative practice. Using her own life experiences as inspiration for all her works, she subtly addresses the things most important to her. Having more recently started up her business, she is also working on a more productive ceramic collection.
