About
The installation includes four main components: recycled clay’s legs, 200 A5 screen-prints, one armchair, and a camera with a monitor. Creating a conversation around exerted power these parts are consciously placed within one another proximity. Specifically done with the intention to visually articulate concepts of inequalities, these elements in this way acquire strong symbolic meanings.
The work is inspired by one of Maya Angelou’s poems titled ”Still I Rise”. The poem is a reminder of the abuses of power, sending a clear message of hope while exalting the potency of resilience and self-determination.
Bio
My practice explores ways to visually articulate complex social and political aspects of existence. Specifically, those aspects concerning moral and ethical issues. I find inspiration in justice. I find motivation in the creative processes of feminist artists before me. In art, feminism can be seen as a conscious and conclusive aspect of making. Yet, more than that it is the awareness of the situation of female exclusion over the decades that raised questions about who else is excluded. Feminism is an inclusive and perpetual work in progress.
