About
This project attempts to highlight the way in which ancient rhetorical theorists conflate the “male” techniques of oratorical persuasion with the techniques (as they saw it) of female seduction. I intend to paint phrases aligning with popular vernacular, in order to highlight the way in which a person’s words can remove the authority, force and even humour from what women have to say. I aim to examine the culturally awkward relationship between the voice of women and the public sphere of debate and commentary, through the lens of antiquity and ancient history.
