Delene Saverimuttu
About
Do I look sick to you now? brings to light the struggle and invalidation experienced from living with chronic illness. In particular, I share my experiences with Fibromyalgia and Joint hyper-mobility syndrome. Fibromyalgia is characterised by chronic, widespread musculoskeletal pain, fatigue, and other cognitive symptoms. Joint hyper-mobility syndrome is a connective tissue disorder where the joints hyperextend resulting in pain and stiffness. However, like other chronic conditions are much more complex, with no two chronically ill patients the same given that symptoms vary greatly and can be unpredictable.
Bio
Delene Saverimuttu is a Sydney-based artist studying at Sydney College of the Arts. Within her practice, she works in oil paints and is interested in the relationship between the human body and mind. Driven by her own experiences, Delene’s current works are inspired by uncomfortable and taboo topics surrounding health and the physical and mental implications of chronic illness. Her work often presents in dream-like atmospheres with floating figures in a state of limbo, exploring feelings of displacement and isolation.
