About
“Friend (Puddle 1)” is a sculptural installation informed by Kang’s ongoing quest to locate the answers to an individuals disconnection between their life and passions through the reconnection of childhood materials. “Friend” is a metaphor for this life, passion and hobby. By creating a simple yet highly reflective stage for her audiences to gaze upon, she uncovers the unique mirroring qualities of her materials and its abilities to uncover the viewer through the transformative portal of her artwork. This work mourns the loss of passion represented through dark flowers and hints at the possible revival or birth of a new passion in bright pink and yellow. Kang reaches out to anyone who is stuck in a loop of disinterest and struggles to commit to anything, currently the work mourns.
But perhaps one day we’ll find “friend” again.
The online work takes a large puddle from a larger collection of sculptural installations and isolates it with several smaller puddles decorated with foam flowers. The photograph and videos are a portal and the possible angle where audiences view the work and see the sky and themselves into the future. The artwork creates an enlightening and lively environment opposed to the indoor artwork.
