Amelia Hofman
About
Oblivion attempts to re-imagine the genre of Abstraction through the intersection of studio practice with digital manipulation. The work was not driven by the preconceived notion of a finished product, and for that is inspired by Surrealist Automatism. This enabled the creative freedom that resulted in distorted, psychedelic-like visuals. The work investigates the rapid advancements of technology, and how it has enabled artists to revolutionise traditional art forms. Through this, ‘Oblivion’ embraces technology as a medium to unveil new tools to manipulate art and manifest a world through a screen. An accompanying soundscape has been created as a directive measure for the audience to play on their subconscious, impacting their perception of the work. The layering of colour and forms moves the viewer through a saturated maze of colour, creating an all-encompassing experience that encourages involvement and imagination.
