About
The environmental portrait is a way that combines the shooting environment to record their real emotions as the main appeal. All images of this project depict an environment scene with which the characters are intimately connected, and they are centred and frontal reflecting the most intuitive and real emotions in the current state. The characters remain still before the lens, showing little or no activity other than self-presentation, demonstrated by the way that eyes meet lens.
These people are represented straightforwardly, without much apparent intervention by the others, and the series of exhibition images display manifestly uniform characteristics.
All the images were taken in my hometown Chengdu, located in the southwest of China that I live in right now. “The elite has the ordinary side, and the original people have the inimitable parts.” like the contradictory principles are best suitable to describe the city; comfortable and progressive, classical and modern, implicit and outgoing, indifference and enthusiasm, these seemingly contradictory descriptions are very harmonious in every Chengdunese.
The combination of portrait and environment constitutes a tridimensional Chengdunese.
Bio
I’m Runyu Lin, living in China now. A student of Bachelor Visual Arts at Syndey College of the Arts.
In the past, I have done documentary photography and studio portrait photography, and for my graduation exhibition work, I want to combine the two aspects that I am most interested in. I want to show the uniqueness of the Chinese, let people from different countries in the world see what China is like today; the most natural look in everyday life around me.
