Remember Our sharpness

We will enter society after graduation, can we retain our individuality at work and not simply become a tool for others to make money? It is a question worth considering and I want to apply this thinking to one of my second topic paintings. I want to create two kinds of butterflies that one’s wings with thorns and one’s wing is obtuse. The former represents the human with unique characteristics, the latter represents the common humans who have been polished by society. In my mind, speculate butterflies are in minority and the majority are sleek butterflies because those who are tactful and obedient can survive in society more easily. However, I want to make a painting named Remember our Sharpness, 2021 to tell people that even the society is polishing us, we should still keep our individuality.

Rebirth

In the second painting of my second subtitle, I am considering the relationship between life and death. Death is always mysterious to us. what will happen after we die? Then I had a picture in my mind of a dead butterfly falling into the water and creating a spray. The birth of this spray is created by the death which suddenly struck me that this is the transition between death and rebirth. It gave me a new understanding of death, not as hopeless, but as gorgeous and dedicated.

Virtuous or evil

For the third painting, I have been thinking about whether human nature is virtuous or evil. My initial idea is to use the two wings of one butterfly to represent the virtuous and the evil respectively to show this problem.

About

The topic of my project is associated with butterflies. I plan to make three subtitles that each topic will have a series of paintings. The first subtitle is to draw the human organs or bones like the shape of butterflies. The second subtitle is to use the butterfly as the replacement for humans to respond the social and human problems.

For the first subtitle, the reason why I use the image of the butterfly is that its wings are symmetric, fragile and beautiful which has similar characteristics to the human body. I have finished the butterfly ribs, lungs, heart and stomach.

For my second subtitle, I want to use the butterfly as the metaphor to reflect some social problems, human nature, and life and death problems.

The third subtitle is an extended subtitle. This time the focus is on the human body, mainly to highlight the fragility that humans and butterflies share. I find that human beings tend to become fragile when they face some difficulties in study, appearance and work. After investigation, appearance anxiety is now a very serious social problem, also causing some troubles to me. So, I will draw a series of paintings based on this theme
