About

The Safest Cage is an experimental and performative video work, themed on and produced during the COVID-19 lockdown. Based on my own experience of being constantly confronted with the interior space, the sense of repetition, as well as my mysophobia during the lockdown, this work explores the relationship between everyday objects and the self. It aims to visualise absurdity, frustration, desire as well as beauty in this special period of time.

Bio

Shurong Shi is an international student studying Bachelor of Visual Arts (Screen Arts) at The University of Sydney, majoring in Film Studies. Shurong’s art practice focuses on experimental video and sound. She is interested in exploring and visualizing self-awareness, absurdism, interior and exterior space. Her recent works are based on experiences of COVID-19 lockdown.
