Breaking Through is the visualization of echo chamber. Given the current state of society, humans are now immersed in cyberspace for longer than decades ago, where they stuck in the stream of manipulative information yet feeling secured.


Structured in organic shape with branches and mesh fabric, by adding layers of binary designs in industrial materials, the chrysalis also symbolizes how nature being reformed by technologies. In addition to the main part, the recorded one-off performance is intended to trigger thinking towards the problems that the social phenomenon will cause.


In the obsession of future, there is an increasing distance between human and nature. The project not only shows symbolic visuals of how technology affects life from birth to death, but also creates an open space for everyone to imagine the consequences of being imprisoned in a digital cellblock.

Bio

Specializing in object making, Astrid Xie is an emerging multimedia artist who transforms dark fantasies and cyber dreams into forms of art, allowing the audience to sense dynamic vitality from the silence of dead objects. Beyond that, she also masters in aggressive photography and acid design.
