About

Windows is a body of work consisting of four acrylic painting projects that are unified conceptually and aesthetically. The common themes of windows and light are represented throughout the works, exploring the temporality of our perception and discourse.

Windows, although appearing confined and boxed in its structure, often symbolise freedom, escapism, and a channel to creations of many things with its transparent qualities. An awareness of the imagery of windows was realised especially during lockdown where a lot of contemplation and hope was experienced behind a window—whether it be a physical or digital window.

Bio

Helinda Yu is a contemporary visual artist based in Sydney, Australia. She is a current student at Sydney College of the Arts, The University of Sydney, and studies a Bachelor of Visual Arts specialising in Painting and a Bachelor of Advanced studies majoring in Sociology.

Helinda’s practice involves using acrylic paints and mixed mediums to create works that invites new ways of understanding the banal in our everyday life. Helinda plays with organic forms, abstraction, colour, light and materiality of paint, to explore deeper meanings and understandings embedded in our daily routines with an emphasis on the interactions between nature, technologies, and people.
