About
Inside, outside is a series of digital paintings that depicts the diverse lifestyle of being Shanghai-based in my personal experience. As an international metropolis, Shanghai is a place that many young people yearn for with intangible pressure. Shakespeare says, “To be or not to be, that is a question.” Is the most appropriate description of Shanghai, because it is a city with both opportunities and challenges where efforts are rewarded, and it would be difficult to survive without effort.
I present five paintings, and this is my first time digitally making artwork. The first four paintings show different scenes, such as the CDB, my neighbourhood, the iconic Bund which embodies the diversity of the city abstractly. I used blue and orange colour as the main tones, blurred the background, accentuated the edge of each object to create an immersive visual impact. The final one is a collage that combines all scenes, mainly in pink and yellow to express a dreamy atmosphere. Through my work, I want to express both human kindness and the passion of this city, hoping to echo the resonance of all struggling people. Even if we are tiny in society, as long as willing to work hard, everything is possible. *
